Girona return to Spain's top division for the first time since the 2018/19 season after winning promotion via the playoffs. They will still be led by captain Stuani who scored 19 goals in their last La Liga campaign and the 35-year-old also scored 24 league goals last season. Valencia suffered a disappointing season last year after finishing ninth with a negative goal difference. They have also lost key man Goncalo Guedes in this transfer window but have softened the blow with the free transfer of Samu Castillejo. The last time the two sides met in 2019, Valencia won 3-2 thanks to a 90th-minute winner from current Barcelona forward Ferran Torres. 1:1
Gennaro Gattuso has no injury concerns or suspensions to deal with. The loan deal for Nico Gonzalez from Barcelona is unlikely to be done by the weekend but not out of the question. Miguel Munoz (Michel) will be without midfielder Borja Garcia going into the season opener as he continues to recover from a knee injury. New loanees Yangel Herrera and Rodrigo Riquelme are both fit and ready to play.
