Jack Ross made three changes in personnel as Hibernian followed their 2-0 victory over Livingston at Easter Road, with a 0-0 stalemate at the home of nearby neighbours Hearts in the first Edinburgh derby of the season. Club captain Paul Hanlon had been absent with a head injury, but came in to replace Darren McGregor in a three man Hibees defence. Chris Cadden made his first appearance of the season after also being on the treatment table with a thigh injury. And Joe Newell entered the midfield, to cover for Jake Doyle-Hayes as he and Jamie Murphy were both sidelined due to illness and injury respectively. Martin Boyle, who had been an injury doubt, was cleared to start at Tynecastle. St. Mirren manager Jim Goodwin made three changes after the Buddies shared the spoils against St Johnstone 0-0 in Paisley, before recording back-to-back stalemates after being held at home at the hands of Dundee United. Matt Millar made his Buddies bow, at right wing-back, after signing for Saints as a free agent upon the expiry of his Newcastle Jets contract. He was joined in a five man midfield by another debutant, Wolves loanee Connor Ronan. Another player the Buddies have high hopes for is 16-year-old Dylan Reid, who made his first Saints start against United, after appearing last season to become their youngest ever player.
