Ross County were unlucky to kick off their Scottish Premiership campaign with a 2-1 defeat to Hearts at Tynecastle, with the task of picking up points proving tricky as their season gets underway. Jordan Tillson joined Ross Callachan in the middle of the park. Yan Dhanda made way for Dominic Samuel to slot in as one of the three behind the lone striker in Edinburgh. Malky Mackay named three league debutants as the Staggies headed for the capital. Ben Purrington started at left-back, Owura Edwards was excellent on the right hand side behind Jordy Hiwula up front. Ange Postecoglou named the same starting XI that saw Celtic beat Norwich City 2-0 in a friendly as they began their Scottish Premiership title defence with a win against Aberdeen at Parkhead by the same scoreline. Stephen Welsh started alongside Cameron Carter-Vickers in the Hoops backline, putting the reigning champions ahead after just three minutes. Jota would go on to seal the deal after receiving from David Turnbull off the bench. Celtic's squad strength at the start of this campaign, in comparison to this time last season, is night and day. Tony Ralston, Aaron Mooy, the aforementioned Turnbull, Liel Abada and Giorgios Giakoumakis all featured against Aberdeen.
Despite County being among Scotland's elite last season, finishing top six, they lost all four Premiership meetings with Celtic. The Staggies are looking to repeat the feat of finishing in the top half of Scotland's top tier. Last season, they famously failed to pick up a victory in their first 10 league matches and the fixture computer wasn't particularly kind to them then so there's no reason to hit the panic button yet. Despite defeat, there are plenty of positives to take from the performance against Hearts in Gorgie. As for the visitors, their first trip on the road takes place at a venue that's proved a tricky stomping ground in recent seasons. That being said, the Hoops won all four league meetings with Ross County last season and only conceded once, before they nicked a 97th-minute winner in that one. It was victories like that which ultimately led Celtic to the league title, so another here wouldn't go amiss. County always pose a threat going forward so could hurt Celtic, but the reigning champions should have enough to claim a victory up in the Highlands. 1:3
